| Financial Retirement Myths | Myth#1: The Female Exclusion
Some people believe that only men retire. This misconception disregards the career women. In reality, both women and men have the same retirement problems. Some people also think that women not keeping 10-to-5 jobs cannot retire and so are not required in retirement planning. In fact, home-makers often have a more difficult voyage than those who retire from a job. Homemakers need to persist in becoming a full partner when their spouses retire.
Myth#2: The Piece of Cake
Many pre-retirees are eager to get out of their career traps. People think that their career cares little about what happens when they leave their jobs and do little retirement planning. In spite of the fact that they have planned other periods of their lives, they think that retirement will take care of itself. The opposite is often true. For instance, many retirees return to work because they cannot manage leisure time. People have to realize that learning to live in comfort and with style after retirement does not necessarily come easy.
Myth#3: Retirement = Early Death
The conception of retirement as a rule is the following: - When people retire they grow old. - “It’s so pity that Bob didn’t work longer.” - “I'd still have Jack if he hadn't retired so early.”
You have to know that retirement can be painful, but it is not fatal. It is some kind of changes you had in your earlier in life. People who die soon after retirement probably had health problems before they stopped working. Retirement had nothing to do with their death.
Myth#4: Sell a Little Real Estate
Hearing this professional realtors chuckle because they know they will not receive any serious competition from retirees that sell real estate. At best, a part-time realtor will make very few sales. You have to know that selling real estate is not a part-time career; it is difficult and time consuming. Selling real estate should not be considered an aspect of your retirement plans. That’s why you have to be in the field seriously or you should get out.
Myth#5: Stay Busy
It is a great idea to stay busy after retirement. You can do what you want to do. But if you keep busy simply to be busy, you are falling for the myth. Some people believe that if they stay busy enough, their retirement problems will go away and they will be happy ever after. Others stay busy to anesthetize themselves against thoughts of aging or living alone.
